Surviving the black hole…

black holeThere have been several times while writing this particular book that I’ve wanted to throw my hands inthe air and walk away. But about two weeks ago, I hit the wall. It was get it done, or move on and when push came to shove, I just wasn’t willing to give up on this baby. So that’s where I’ve been hiding out, in the deep dark hole of last chance editing. The hole where you sink in so deep you don’t leave your house and basically the world ceases to exist around you. Well, I’ve finally come up for air and I can tell you it was worth giving myself permission  to sink into the hole. Sometimes there’s just no other way to accomplish your goals.

Some writers call it the writers cave, and I’m sure there are many other terms attached to this phenomenon. Personally I think dark hole is an apt description, because once you commit and are serious, I mean really serious, you’re in it for the long haul.

I’ll tell you a secret that only Lora and my husband know. I sunk in so deep, I refused to go get my hair  dyed until I typed the end on this one, and let me tell you, it was brutal. I won’t tell you everything else that got put on hold LOL. But that’s how determined I was, and I couldn’t see wasting 3 hours sitting in a salon when this book still needed to get finished.

choice quote

So, in my roundabout way, what I’m telling you is… if you have a project to finish, and it doesn’t really matter what it is, sink in to it. Let it consume you and finish the darn thing, or take the other path and walk away. But make a choice! Stick to it! And make the choice work for you! How far are you willing to go to follow your dream?

And THIS is what it’s all about. Not giving in. Not giving up. Not letting go. If it’s important to you, you have to dig deep. You dug deep, my friend. And, the rewards are already starting for you, and they are huge! You kept going when many others would not. So stinkin’ proud of you! Hugs!!
