Toolbox Tuesday here at OOCZ, and today we’re focusing not on an app or a gadget, but on our own unique way of looking at the world.
NaNoWriMo folks – is your writing month half over or do you have half yet to go?
Those on a Weight Loss quest – are you depriving yourself of comfort food all in the name of a diet or are you getting to explore new tastes and textures of healthier food options?
Perspective is a powerful tool, one that can mean the difference between success and failure.
Perspective is a choice.
We choose how we look at the world. And, we choose how we respond to what we see. Two people can look at the same photo yet take away two very different views.
How is your perspective supporting or harming your outcome? If you find yourself off track, stop for a second and rewind your thoughts. Think through even the simplest daily choices and imagine what would have come about had you altered your path. What if?
We do this all the time in our stories – the plot isn’t working, we change out something or someone. We ask ‘what if?’ We change the point of view from one character to another. Perspective. It’s still the same story, but now somehow richer and deeper for the shift.
Even the simplest alterations in daily choices can shift perspective for the day. Try a different route to work. Maybe a different flavor creamer in the morning Joe. Wear something different. Do one little something different today.
Then, this evening think about the differences this little change made. It may be subtle. It could be profound. You just never know the power of the tools you have in hand until you put them to use.
