And I’m off! But that wasn’t all that was “off”…

Well, I did it. I went out and kicked some serious CZ butt at the National Romance Writers of America convention! I’m going to post a couple of times on my NY experience, but have really been up in the air about which to go with first- The good, the bad, or the ugly. So I’ve decided to start at the beginning.

Getting ready to leave was kind of a trauma. I mean really who can know what outfit they might be in the mood to wear any given day, and it isn’t like you can pack up your whole closet right? And let’s not even talk about the shoe situation. You have to have the right shoes to kick some CZ butt…

But finally I’m packed and ready to jump feet first into something I’ve dreamed about doing forever.

They say bad luck comes in 3’s, so after having to jump through hopes to get through security at the airport, getting stuck on the tarmac for over an hour, and arriving at 10:30 at night to find the roommate I had gotten off the conference forums had removed my name from the room and added someone else, I thought things had to go up from there right? Let me just say here, the room situation got sorted out and I did have a place to sleep so I wasn’t homeless in NY that first night.

The next morning I woke up early to head for the KOD (Kiss of Death) tour. It was incredible! Four FBI agents were there to answer all our questions. Okay maybe not all. There were a few questions they weren’t at liberty to answer. But the information was fantastic. Remember, I write Romantic suspense so it was like striking gold. Plus, did I forget to mention that they were all pretty hot! We also met with a hostage negotiator from NY. He was funny and made the time fly with all the information he shared.

At this point, I’m thinking CZ busting is pretty great. NY is like a whole other planet, but so interesting. I met up with some friends I’d only ever met online and we went to Juniors, who’s known for great cheese cake. Afterwards a couple of us decided to head off to Dylan’s candy bar. If you’ve never gone, I highly recommend it. They not only have an enormous selection of candy, but a bar with signature drinks created by select types of candy. The day was everything I imagined it would be and totally made up for the rough start.

At least until I got back to my hotel room and found out my roommate was having an out of body experience and hearing voices. Yikes! Okay so maybe bad luck comes in more than 3’s, huh? I stayed up until two in the morning waiting for her to fall asleep. So apparently I was a little nervous about the voices. I started to wonder if it wasn’t one of the voices that had been checked in when my name was removed. But at this point I was determined not to let anything ruin this trip. I was excited as the conference orientation was the following day and I knew loads of other writers were going to be arriving, so the conference would get into full swing.

I’ve been planning this CZ bust for so long, I was going to bust through the obstacles and kick some CZ butt, no matter what was thrown my way. And the hits kept coming… stay tuned for more on the good, the bad and the ugly!
